Advocating for Utah’s Seniors in Clearfield

Utah’s Growing Senior Demographic

Utah’s population aged 65 and older is expanding rapidly. Between 2020 and 2024, that group grew by 17.5%, while the population under 18 decreased by 1.8%—a dramatic demographic shift (Axios).

Today, about one in ten Utahns is 65 or older, and by 2065 one in five residents will be seniors (Gardner Institute). This is one of the fastest aging populations in the country, and Utah already ranks among the top three states for senior population growth.

Building Senior Housing Within TOD Zones

Clearfield must be a partner in responding to this statewide challenge. To support our aging population, we need to:

  • Develop senior-focused housing inside our Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) zones.
  • Ensure new senior housing is affordable, connected to transit, and designed for aging in place.
  • Provide tax relief programs so seniors can remain in their homes without the fear of being taxed out.

Partnerships for Wrap-Around Services

Clearfield already has a senior center. We must work with Davis County to expand “wrap-around” services for seniors, such as:

  • In-home support and caregiving assistance
  • Transportation options
  • Health screenings and wellness programs
  • Social and community engagement opportunities

These partnerships will allow seniors to stay connected, healthy, and active in our community.
