Clearfield faces more property crime per costs capita than nearby Kaysville, a city of similar size. In 2023, a fentanyl crisis nearly devastated our community when 14,000 pills were seized.
As a champion for public safety, I have consistently advocated for meeting the full staffing requests made by our police chief during the budget process. Currently, our police department remains understaffed relative to the needs of Clearfield’s growing population. If we want safer neighborhoods, we must make public safety a top priority by providing law enforcement with the necessary resources, ensuring adequate staffing, and addressing the root causes of crime. Every family in Clearfield deserves to feel safe in their community, and I will ensure Clearfield invests in the officers and strategies needed to keep our city safe.
My Public Safety Commitments:
- Adequate Staffing and Resources
Fully fund the staffing requests of the police chief and provide our department with the tools, training, and equipment necessary to meet the needs of a growing city.
- Community Policing and Visibility
Strengthen community policing initiatives to build trust between residents and officers, increase neighborhood patrols, and ensure law enforcement is visible, approachable, and engaged.
- Addressing the Drug Crisis
Tackle the fentanyl and opioid crisis by supporting specialized training, regional task forces, and partnerships with health providers to both disrupt supply and provide pathways to recovery.
- Crime Prevention and Youth Programs
Invest in preventative strategies such as youth mentorship, after-school programs, and early intervention services that reduce crime by addressing root causes before they escalate. By increasing recreational access in our city
- Collaboration and Accountability
Ensure open communication between city leadership, residents, and law enforcement while setting clear accountability standards for safety outcomes
