UCASA Training

40 Hour Rape Crisis Advocacy

Back in 2017,  I attended the UCASA 40 Hour Rape Crisis Advocacy Training put on by Safe Harbor Crisis Center, a local Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault victim shelter.

As your council member and as someone who witnessed domestic violence growing up, this work is personal. That experience guides me every day. I will always speak up for survivors, push for early intervention, and make sure our city treats domestic violence as the urgent, preventable crisis it is.

“Clearfield averages 200 cases of domestic violence (DV) per quarter,” according to a department news release, which noted more than 10 million people annually in the U.S. are victims of DV.

What I am fighting for....

• Victim centered response:

Sustain and expand Clearfield’s victim advocates and our domestic violence investigator so calls for help are answered with speed, care, and follow through.

• Stronger coordination with service providers:

Deepen partnerships with Safe Harbor Crisis Center and regional nonprofits for shelter, legal advocacy, and counseling because safety planning and housing stability save lives.

• Prevention and youth education:

Invest in proven prevention programs that teach healthy relationships and identify warning signs early, reducing future victimization and the ripple effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences.

• Housing and safety supports:

Expand rapid relocation, lock change, and emergency housing options so survivors are not forced to choose between danger and homelessness.

Domestic violence thrives in silence. Clearfield will not be silent. I will continue to put survivors first, fund what works, and measure our progress, because every family deserves a home that is safe, and every child deserves a childhood free from fear.
